Millin’s Distinction method: a fixed, pre-planned answer layout for every task, index cards for terms, timed past papers marked against the examiners’ guideline answers. ‘Don’t try and be original – just tick the boxes!’
Old exam format (pre-2015)
Task numbering doesn’t map onto the current paper. Keep the method, check the layout against the current Cambridge DELTA handbook.
Method
- Three card sets: Paper 1 reminders, Paper 2 reminders, key terms (definition/example/feature on the back). Quizlet for gaps.
- Three timed weekend papers, then a full back-to-back mock with a 30-minute break.
- Mark against exam-report guideline answers; log your misses in red.
Layout habits (transferable)
- New page per task; task number at the top.
- Write numbers and “eg” placeholders before reading the question, so the layout forces the required count.
- Tables for strengths/weaknesses with “eg” in each cell; headings like “area to prioritise / because”.
- Bullet points, not prose.
- Terminology tasks: be quick; don’t stall on an unknown term.
Apply in my context (Claude)
- The vault itself becomes your card set. Each Topic - SLA Theories Map term can be turned into definition/example/feature cards (Anki or Obsidian Spaced Repetition plugin).
