Three warmers that need one slide each: speculate about a mystery object then check, describe students’ doodles in their own coursebooks, and build a story from a set of icons.

The three warmers

  • Mystery object (post): invent a backstory, then research what it really is; or write the object’s biography (who used it, where it came from).
  • Coursebook doodles (post): show photos of doodles, elicit doodle, describe; students doodle on a page of their own book and describe it to a partner.
  • Story icons (post): a slide of icons (alien, crime, spooky sets); short prep time; pairs tell the story.

Limits

No aims, levels or feedback stage. Warmers, not lessons.

Make them earn their time (Claude)

Add a language target: mystery objects → modals of deduction (It might be… It can’t be…, PET Speaking Part 3/4); story icons → narrative tenses and sequencers; then a 2-minute feedback stage with one upgraded sentence per pair.
