Reflection is a self-evaluative cycle that starts in classroom experience and feeds CPD. ‘Once you start implementing changes, the reflective and evaluative cycle begins again.‘

Procedure

  • After a lesson: what happened, why, how could it improve? (e.g. check TTT or engagement and find the cause)
  • Formats: teaching journal, recorded lessons, critical friend, action research.
  • Cycle questions: What am I doing? Why? How effective is it? How are students responding? How could I do it better?
  • Change one thing in your go-to lesson next time.

Theory

Farrell (reflective practice; named, no work cited).

Limits

A practical overview with no evidence. It doesn’t say how to tell whether reflection changed practice.
