He was uniquely short and skinny
He worked for Mecca’s lower class families, following his father’s footsteps, as a shepherd
He used to be known for his perfume
He was sent to be a shepherd for Ukba ibn Abu Mu’id (one of the most evil oppressors: who put the camel guts on the back of Muhammad s.a.w) at the age of 13.
The Prophet s.aw and Abu Bakr r.a came to him asking for milk (story)
At one point, he was the one/sixth of Islam (the sixth man who accepted Islam)
He was keeper of things of the Prophet and he was also the keeper of secrets of the Prophet s.a.w
He was the very first man who recited Qur’an publicly in front of the Ka’ba
He recited Surah Ar-Rohman
If you wanted to listen to the Qur’an fresh, as it’s revealed to the Prophet s.a.w - you would go to Abdullah ibn Mas’ood and listen to his qiroat, his recitation (He said he took 70 surah from Rosululloh’s mouth)
When the Prophet s.a.w told people to learn the Qur’an from 4 people, He s.a.w mentioned ibn Mas’ood first, and then Muath, and Ubay and Salim.
The Prophet s.a.w asked Abdullah ibn Mas’ood r.a to recite the Qur’an for him, so he recited surah An-Nisa and Rosululloh stopped him while he was reciting the verse, ayat where it says “You, oh the Prophet Muhammad, will be a witness for all other nations on the day of Judgement” - when Ibn Mas’ood stopped and looked at the Propthet s.a.w - he was crying like a leaky faucet
A story about him being laughed at because of the smallness of his legs by other companions and the Prophet s.a.w saw that he was hurt by that and he said his legs would be heavier and giant in the scale of Allah than Mountains of Uhud
Abu Musa al-Ash’ari r.a when he came from Yemen he thought that Abdullah ibn Mas’ood and his mother were from Ahlul Bayt - from the household of the Prophet s.a.w because of his closeness
Abdullah ibn Mas’ood r.a was the one who killed Abu Jahl - the Fir’awn of this Ummah after Abu Jahl was struck by two young men and fell down.
He r.a married a bit later to Zaynab. Before that the famous hadith was narrated by the Prophet that “Those who are capable of marrieage should marry and those who aren’t should fast as it will be a shield”
He had a close relationship with Umar r.a as well
After the Prophet s.a.w passed away, he was sent to Kufa by Umar even though Umar r.a said I cannot bear to live without ibn Mas’ood r.a. It was how close they were.
He lived to see Uthman r.a being Xilafa and it was at that time he passed away.
