Highlights / notes file: How to Take Smart Notes - Sönke Ahrens
Writing is thinking: every intellectual project starts with a note. A meaningful, well-defined task beats willpower, and reading more doesn’t automatically produce more ideas. The method behind this vault.
From my highlights
- We write to organise thoughts and to exchange ideas; every intellectual endeavour starts with a note.
- Nobody needs willpower to avoid a chocolate bar that isn’t there. A meaningful, well-defined task beats willpower.
- Often the best students struggle most; having read more ≠ having more ideas.
- Keep things simple; follow a few principles.
Apply (Claude)
- This vault’s atomic notes are Ahrens’s “permanent notes”: one idea, own words, linked. The DELTA payoff: Module 1 and 3 answers are assembled from notes, not written from scratch.
- For homework: replace “revise unit 3” with a defined task (“write 5 sentences using today’s chunks about your weekend”).
