Whole AI-generated lesson plans tend to be ‘the most average of the average’. Save time only if you design the outline and ask the model for two or three options per stage. ‘Don’t try and switch roles with the AI.‘

Workflow

  1. Write the lesson’s key stages yourself.
  2. Give the outline to an LLM with level, topic, skills, outcomes and interests.
  3. Ask for 2–3 options per stage; compare across models.
  4. For longer plans, supply a template to fill.
  5. Edit everything for your group and the previous lessons.

Start AI literacy with anthropomorphism, how learners perceive AI. The risks are overtrust and misinformation.

Apply in my context (Claude)

  • This is the design principle Coursebook-to-Lesson already follows (the coursebook page = the outline). Keep teachers choosing between generated options rather than receiving one finished plan. That preserves teacher judgement (cf. Solutionism - define the problem before the technology).
