Essay and lesson plan should cohere: the lesson enacts one of the essay’s solutions. But the plan’s rationale must be specific to this group, not a copy of the essay.
2013 DELTA format
Written as a candidate in 2013. Word counts, task numbers and handbook page references have changed since. Keep the method and check the details in the current Cambridge handbook.
Checklist
- Learner profile; aims and outcomes that are clear, achievable and measurable.
- Anticipated problems with planned solutions; relation to previous and next lessons.
- Target-language analysis (form/meaning/pronunciation, or sub-skills).
- For every procedure stage: how does this help learners do something better?
- Attach and attribute all materials.
- Build contingency into timings; put the main activity early enough.
- Mentally rehearse the lesson, including likely learner responses and your replies.
- Open with a student-centred activity, which also settles your own nerves (her personal tip).
Apply in my context (Claude)
- The “how does this stage help” test is a good discipline for Coursebook-to-Lesson plans too. Add it as a required field so generated CELTA-style plans don’t list stages without a rationale.
