Students write about a news item or post that interested them in a shared doc. The teacher builds vocabulary work from their themes while they write (using ChatGPT to speed this up). Then students react, do the vocabulary work, and summarise using the new words.
Procedure (teens/adults, online or classroom)
- Students write (anonymously, in a shared Google Doc) about a news item or social post they found interesting.
- While they write, the teacher reads and builds theme-based vocabulary tasks (crime, trends, wildfires…).
- Students read and react to each other’s texts, using sentence stems.
- Vocabulary matching + delayed feedback on emergent language.
- Students summarise one or more stories using the new vocabulary.
- Save the texts as material for future lessons.
Limits
No success criteria; ChatGPT vocabulary output unchecked; moderation of anonymous content not addressed.
Apply in my context (Claude)
- This is a Dogme lesson with a reliable structure: the learners supply the content, the teacher supplies the language work. It suits a weekly IELTS “free” slot. Check the AI-generated vocabulary items before use.
